Learn how to securely display your Platelight acrylic panel inside your PC case without a stand. Step-by-step guide for a clean, backlit look.
Quick answer
You can install a Platelight acrylic panel without a stand by mounting it directly inside your PC case using adhesive magnetic strips or double-sided tape, positioning it against a flat metal or glass surface for a secure, backlit display.
Why skip the stand?
A stand is great for desk displays, but inside a PC case, it takes up space and can block airflow. Mounting the acrylic directly against a flat surface keeps the build clean and lets the Platelight's LEDs shine through evenly without obstruction.
What you need for a standless install
You'll need adhesive magnetic strips (or strong double-sided tape), a clean microfiber cloth, and your Platelight acrylic panel. The Neck and Neck acrylic panel, made from durable acrylic, works well for this because its flat back adheres easily to magnets or tape without warping.
Step-by-step installation without a stand
- Choose the mounting spot: Pick a flat, clean area inside your PC case—typically the PSU shroud, side panel, or a metal bracket. Make sure the surface is non-porous and not blocking any fan intake or exhaust. Avoid placing the acrylic over ventilation holes or near hot components like GPU backplates.
- Clean both surfaces: Wipe the back of the acrylic panel and the mounting area with a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and oils. Let it dry completely. Any residue will weaken the adhesive bond and may cause the panel to fall.
- Attach adhesive strips: Cut two to four small pieces of adhesive magnetic strip or double-sided tape. Place them along the edges of the acrylic back, not the center, to distribute weight evenly. Don't place strips near the LED diffuser area—they can block light and create dark spots.
- Press and hold: Position the acrylic against the chosen surface and press firmly for 10–15 seconds. If using magnets, make sure the metal surface is ferromagnetic and the magnets align properly. Check that the panel is level and not tilted before the adhesive sets.
- Test the fit: Gently tug the acrylic to confirm it's secure. Then power on your PC and the Platelight to see the backlit effect. Adjust position if the light diffusion looks uneven. If the panel shifts during use, add an extra strip at the bottom for reinforcement.
